MOUNT PLEASANT, S.C. (WCSC) – Mount Pleasant Police say two adults and three youths are facing charges in a string of auto break-ins Saturday.
Karriem Mayweather, 18, is charged with possession of a stolen vehicle and breaking into a motor vehicle; and Michael Judge, 18, is charged with financial transaction card theft, possession of a stolen motor vehicle and breaking into a motor vehicle, Sgt. Ashley Croy said.
Three youths, whose names have not been released because of their age, were also charged, she said:
- Juvenile 1: Charged with possession of a stolen motor vehicle and breaking into a motor vehicle
- Juvenile 2: Charged with possession of a stolen vehicle, unlawful carry of a firearm and possession of a stolen firearm
- Juvenile 3: Charged with possession of a stolen vehicle and breaking into a motor vehicle.
Police responded at 5:01 a.m. Saturday to the area of the Bridge Side Apartments to investigate a call about “suspicious persons,” Croy said.
An incident report states a responding officer arrived and noticed a blue Toyota and a red Prius attempting to leave the parking lot. The officer shined his spotlight on the blue Toyota to identify the driver and noticed everyone in the vehicle were wearing hoods up and that it appeared they were trying to avoid eye contact, the report states.
When the officer activated blue lights, the occupants of the Toyota ran away on foot and the officer followed, the report states. Police say the Prius struck the police vehicle’s push bumper on the Prius’s driver-side door.
After a chase, police apprehended at least two of the five, the report states. It does not indicate when the remaining three were arrested.
Mayweather and Judge have since been released from the Al Cannon Detention Center, jail records state. A judge set bail for Mayweather at a total of $12,500, while Judge’s bail was set at a total of $17,500.
