A car salesperson at a Hyundai Motor dealership in Asan, South Chungcheong Province, has won the global auto giant’s highest recognition and special title for having sold a record number of cars, according to the company, Monday.

The prolific sales associate, Kim Chang, chief of marketing at the company’s dealership in the city’s Tangjeong area, last month sold the 5,000th car of his career. After entering the company in 1989, Kim has sold 140 cars on average each year.

Following his latest achievement, Kim has become the company’s official “Sales Master,” a nickname the company bestows on the dealer with sales of 5,000 cars or more. Since the company’s establishment in 1967, there have been 19 Sales Masters, including Kim.

The company rewards different titles to sales agents who achieve 2,000, 3,000, 4,000 and over 5,000 sales.

“Our salespeople are at the forefront of our marketing fields, and we’ve been honoring outstanding salespeople to encourage their efforts, achievements and vocational motivation,” a company official said.

Kim, who accepted his latest title, said that throughout his 35 years as a car salesperson, his top priority has always been to earn the trust of customers. This aim sustained him throughout his career at the dealership right from the start. From 2008 until 2013, he recorded the dealership’s top sales performance each year and topped all Hyundai dealerships in the city each year from 2014 until 2018.

From 2008 until 2023, he never missed a year selling 120 cars or more.

“Trends in the country’s auto market are changing as eco-friendly cars are becoming more available, and their demands are on the rise,” Kim said following the achievement. “My new goal is to focus on promoting those environmentally clean vehicles and reach the 6,000 mark.”
