Arts, culture, entertainment and weekend events in Wilmington, NC

Welcome to the weekly Port City Life newsletter brought to you by me, StarNews cultural issues reporter John Staton.
One thing that’s always great about Wilmington in February is the explosion of theatrical productions that occurs this time each year. January is typically pretty fallow ground for theater in the Port City, mainly because those shows would have to be rehearsed in December and, you know, the holidays.
But there are five, count ’em, five shows on area stages this weekend, including a musical at Brunswick Little Theatre in Southport that’s nearly sold out.
Details on these shows and more below.
Weekend weather outlook
Old Man Winter’s not going down without a fight this year, but hopefully this weekend will be his last hurrah for ’25. Mostly clear, with highs in the 40s and lows near freezing Friday and Saturday, warming up into the 50s on Sunday. Could be worse!
Go | See | Do
There’s plenty to distract you from the chilly weather this weekend, starting with two plays (“Romeo and Juliet” at University of North Carolina Wilmington, “Parallel Lives” in Thalian Hall’s studio”) and two musicals (“Ain’t Misbehavin'” at Thalian Hall, “Big Fish” at North Front Theatre).
Plus, there are historical commemorations at the Cameron Art Museum (Civil War Battle of Forks Road) and at Moores Creek National Battlefield (Revolutionary War Battle of Moores Creek Bridge), not to mention a raft of concerts.

Getting to know Wilmington’s ‘wonder wall’
It’s one of the more distinctive structures in downtown Wilmington: A towering stone wall that rises high above the sidewalk near where Nun Street meets the Cape Fear River and runs behind the 200-year-old Gov. Edward Dudley Mansion. It dates to the early 19th century, if not before. A look into the wall’s history.
