Prairie Fusion Arts & Entertainment is buzzing with activity this month, offering a wide range of free and exciting events for all ages. Executive Director Lorna Knight shared details about the upcoming festivities that aim to bring the community together in a creative and fun way.

“We have a lot happening this month. Tonight, we’re hosting a free glow dance party as part of our Family Fusion Fun program. It’s open to all ages, and we encourage people to pre-register on our website, but it’s completely free.”

In addition to the dance party, Prairie Fusion is also bringing back their popular annual paint challenge.

“This Friday, March 14, we’re excited to have our second annual paint challenge, hosted by Mayor Sherilyn Knox and Councilor Preston Meier,” Knight explained. “Local artists, business owners, and even some Terriers players will join in on the fun, showing off their painting skills.”

For families interested in more hands-on activities, another Family Fusion Fun event will take place on March 27, offering a free ceramic painting session.

“We’re really focused on providing opportunities for families, especially since there isn’t a community center in Portage. We want to create a space where families can enjoy activities together.”

Beyond the family-focused events, Prairie Fusion has also launched new programs for adults, including Indigenous dance classes and line dancing.

“We’ve introduced hoop dancing and jingle dress dancing, and our adult art workshops are also popular. From textured wall paintings to ceramics, there’s something creative for everyone.”

Prairie Fusion also recently opened its Rona boutique, which has been well received by the community.

“We’ve seen great response, and we’re thrilled to feature local artists’ work. It’s a wonderful way to support our community and give local artists a platform.”

The arts center is also nearing the end of its concert series, with The Dirty Catfish Brass Band performing on April 24.

“They’re a lively, fun group, and we’re excited to wrap up our concert season with them. Looking ahead to next year, we’re already planning an exciting lineup with tribute bands and country music.”

Knight also noted that they have had a really successful season with their concert series. The Arts Centre has been really busy and that they are excited for all the new programs they are rolling out. The hope is that they will attract some new demographic.

When you buy tickets to an event at Prairie Fusion Arts & Entertainment you are putting that money right back into the Centre, so that they can offer free programs like Family Fusion Fun.
