Trivia wars: Masterful game show, ‘Jeopardy,’ tantalizes viewers’ minds | Arts & Entertainment

“Jeopardy” is one of the most intense, engaging and entertaining shows on television. I can tell you don’t believe me, but allow me to explain. Three contestants, one winner and a series of questions that you can answer. You either win money if you get the question right, or lose money if you get it wrong. And, you learn so much random knowledge in the process.

With so many points in mind about this show, let’s begin at the beginning. I love to hear the introductions and to know where these contestants come from, what they do for a living and a random fact about their life before they fight (academically, of course) for the prize. “Jeopardy” has managed to keep its content fresh too. Former champions have come back to compete, as well as celebrities and college students (that’s right Valpo, you have a chance). This is a show for everyone of all ages and backgrounds. Better yet, “Jeopardy” has been viewed by the masses since 1964, which should further convince you of its relevance.

As you watch more and more episodes, the more of an academic superweapon you’ll become. You’ll surprise yourself and your friends by how many questions you get right during each watch. You’ll laugh, you’ll gasp and you’ll feel like a nerd. It’s amazing. One of my new favorite parts of watching “Jeopardy” is that, as you’ve watched this emotional saga for a half hour, you think you know who’s going to win. It seems as if the writing is on the wall- so and so is in the lead with $15,000, with the other two contestants closely (or not) trailing behind. Then comes ‘Final Jeopardy’ and depending on the contestant’s wagers, you would be surprised by the outcomes. The person you expected would win, loses everything and the person with a small, measly sum of money comes out as the champion. Absolutely mind-blowing every single time it happens.

Even the name incites a sense of uneasiness. “Jeopardy” could’ve easily been called “Trivia Battle” or some other goofy name, but no. The show is called “Jeopardy,” a game of risk and reward.

Besides being the coolest show on TV, “Jeopardy” requires skill. The contestants need to study, train and prepare to be considered to even participate. The questions contain niche information, which is astounding in and of itself that these talented people from across the country know such specific facts. While other game shows have a focus on flash and glam, “Jeopardy” has substance. It is a meticulous game of calculated approach, trivia and speed. I also love the theme song- everyone does. Even if you don’t like the show, you know it’s tune.

This show is extra awesome because you can expand your brain power and unwind at the same time. So, undo the brain rot, do yourself a favor and tune into “Jeopardy. It’s on every day from 3:30 to 4 p.m. You won’t regret it!
